If the app attempts to download the software or a new version of the software, the Software Management screen will show you that a new version is available. This will also be signified on the dashboard to let you know.

If you receive an error during download or upload, you can re-trigger both from either of the individual Software Management screens.

SurfBeam 2 Modem Provisioning Job Aid

Summary

This Job Aid covers:

Provisioning Setup Verification

Modem Provisioning

Exede Voice Activation

This Job Aid supports all Technician audiences. This process applies for the SurfBeam 2 and Exede WiFi Modems, with accounts that may or may not have Exede Voice.

At the end of the Point and Peak process, the right arrow was clicked to have the modem attempt Modem Lock. When the modem has locked, the Modem Browser Interface will show 3 green checkmarks.

Modem Provisioning

After obtaining Modem Lock, close the browser, and open it again.

When the computer browser opens, the Gateway Network automatically directs the browser to the Provisioning Network. The Provisioning System then displays the Welcome to Service Activation page.

On this page, enter the Customer Code in the Customer Code field. This code is found on the work order or in the Installation area of the Quick Flash tab in the Support Portal.

Click Next Step to display the next page.

On the Customer Confirmation page validate the Customer name and address. If it is incorrect click Cancel and re-enter the correct Customer Code.

Enter the Installer ID in the Installer ID field. Remember each ViaSat Partner requires the Technician use a certified Installer ID associated with their installations. A Technician may have more than one Installer ID and must use the correct ID for each Partner Installation.

Note: The provisioning system will verify the Installer ID. The ID can fail:

  1. Non-existent: The ID does not exist in the database.
  2. Expired: The Technician did not complete recertification and the ID Expiration Date is past
  3. Wrong Partner: The Installer ID exists in the database as certified, but it is not associated with the partner that issued the installation order.

All Installer IDs are available on the technician’s dashboard in ViaSat Central.

Note: This step only applies to ViaSat retail accounts.

After the customer information and Installer ID are verified, the system will ask to verify the customer’s contact email account. If it is not correct select No and update it.

Otherwise, click Yes.

The Quality of Install (QOI) page displays. This Quality of Install test can take up to one minute.

If the verification system is unavailable, an Error page displays. This page reminds the Technician to use the eSVT/SVT to validate the QOI of the installation.

If any red values appear, the technician must repair the installation until all values appear green.

Click Run QOI to have the system recheck the Quality of Install. Do not restart provisioning.

Click Continue to continue the Provisioning Process.

Does the work order include Exede Voice?

  • If yes, go to section Exede Voice Activation, below.
  • If no, go to Step 7.

Once QOI testing passes the Confirmation page displays.

Follow the on-screen steps to reboot the modem. When that is complete, open the browser and complete Customer Internet Test to validate that the computer can access and surf the internet.

Exede Voice Activation

If an order has Exede Voice as part of a new service, the activation process begins immediately after QOI.

The Exede Voice page displays. Click Voice Activation Portal to begin activation.

Important! The next series of pages appear as part of Part 1. Work within these smaller frames until you reach the Accept button (Step 8 below)

Type the same Customer Code used to provision the Internet service.

Type the Customer’s last name.

Click Next.

Review the 911 Provisioning information with the Customer.

When they understand the information, click Yes.

Type the Device MAC address.

The MAC address comes from EITHER the

  • Exede WiFi Modem
  • Exede Voice Adapter

Both devices use this process for activation.

Click Next.

Provide the phone number to the customer.

Click Next.

Review the Summary page, and ask the customer to confirm all of the information.

STOP! If any information is incorrect, call the number on the screen before proceeding.

Click Activate and WAIT for the system to respond.

If the system does not respond within 5 minutes, open your browser and type in the URL below, and complete activation of the service.

https://viasat.user.alianza.com/dap/

The Exede Voice Activation Complete page displays.

Check the box (if present) and click Accept and WAIT for the system to respond.

The system responds with a blank area (where you’ve been working previously).

Scroll to the bottom of the browser page, and click the green Proceed to Confirmation button.

The final Confirmation page displays.

Follow the on-screen steps to reboot the modem. When that is complete, open the browser and complete Customer Internet Test to validate that the computer can access and surf the internet.

Drag the Light Green Bar over to inside the Dark Green Bar:

The Light Green Bar will need to be inside the Dark Green Bar. When lined up correctly a hand icon will appear . If not lined up correctly the no symbol will appear.

Once lined up correctly let go of the left click button. The work order will now be assigned and will auto save. If you hover over the Light Green Bar it will show assigned and will no longer be in the Unassigned orders list. Also note that if you let go of the left click button while seeing the no symbol no changes will be made.

To Unassign a tech while under the Calendar & Task Management dropdown

Right click Light Green Bar and Select Open Calendar for the task reschedule:

This will pull up that specific work order.

To Unassign the technician, uncheck the checkbox next to the technician’s name:

Unassigned Orders via the Scheduling Button

Using the schedule button will pull up that specific order. When on a specific order the FSM ID will be displayed:

When on a specific order, the user will still have access to the unassigned order button:

When viewing a specific order, the Drag and Drop feature will not work. That feature will only work under the Calendar & Task Management.

When under a specific order, the unassigned order button can be used as a quick way to view Unassigned Orders. Right clicking on an order under the Unassigned orders list will give the option to Open Calendar for the task reschedule. The dispatcher can quickly move to another work order to manual schedule.

Tech Bulletin: Attention Dispatchers – An Update on FSM and Adobe Flash

Attention Dispatchers – An Update on FSM and Adobe Flash

Hello,

As you may know, Adobe Flash will no longer be supported by all major internet browsers as of December 31st, 2020. FSM’s current Scheduler is Flash based, thus a change is required to continue to support this functionality. As the Dispatcher role is the only one that utilizes the Scheduler, it is the only role impacted. The FSM Mobile App(s) are not impacted by this update.

Viasat and Comarch are working hard to replace the Scheduler with a long-term solution, which is a little more elegant and user-friendly. This long-term solution is targeted to be rolled out in February. Expect further communication as progress continues.

To maintain the use of FSM Scheduler between December and February, Viasat has created a separate version of the Viasat Browser. This version of Viasat Browser is specifically designed to work with FSM after the Flash end-of-life date. If you already have the Viasat Browser installed on your computer, you will first need to uninstall it and reboot your computer prior to installing the new FSM-friendly version. Computers are unable to have both versions of the Viasat Browser installed at once. Please refer to your Operating System’s instructions on how to uninstall software. To download the new FSM-friendly Viasat Browser: click here for Windows or click here for macOS.

As always, please reach out to FSM Administrators for any questions! Otherwise, stay tuned for more news on the new Scheduler, and stay safe! Thank you!

You may terminate this License at any time by providing Viasat a signed written statement notifying Viasat that you are terminating the License. Viasat may terminate this License (and your license rights) at any time, in its sole and absolute discretion, with or without notice. Your rights under this License will terminate immediately and automatically without any notice from Viasat if you fail to comply with any of the terms and conditions of this License. Promptly upon termination, you must cease all use of the Application and destroy all copies of the Application in your possession or control. Termination will not limit any of Viasat’s other rights or remedies at law or in equity. Sections 1(c), 1(d), 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 of this License shall survive termination or expiration of this License for any reason.
  3. Disclaimer of Warranties. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMISSIBLE UNDER APPLICABLE LAW, THE APPLICATION IS PROVIDED TO YOU “AS IS,” WITH ALL FAULTS, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, WITHOUT PERFORMANCE ASSURANCE OR GUARANTEES OF ANY KIND, AND YOUR USE IS AT YOUR SOLE RISK. THE ENTIRE RISK OF SATISFACTORY QUALITY AND PERFORMANCE RESIDES WITH YOU. VIASAT DOES NOT MAKE AND HEREBY DISCLAIMS, ANY AND ALL EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR STATUTORY WARRANTIES, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF CONDITION, UNINTERRUPTED USE, MERCHANTABILITY, SATISFACTORY QUALITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NONINFRINGEMENT OF THIRD PARTY RIGHTS, AND WARRANTIES (IF ANY) ARISING FROM A COURSE OF DEALING, USAGE, OR TRADE PRACTICE. VIASAT DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE APPLICATION WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS; THAT OPERATION OF THE APPLICATION WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE; THAT THE APPLICATION WILL INTEROPERATE OR BE COMPATIBLE WITH ANY OTHER APPLICATION; THAT ANY ERRORS IN THE APPLICATION WILL BE CORRECTED; THAT THE INFORMATION CONTAINED IN THE APPLICATION IS TRUE AND ACCURATE; OR THAT THE APPLICATION WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR REINSTALLS TO THE SAME OR MULTIPLE DEVICES. NO ORAL OR WRITTEN ADVICE PROVIDED BY VIASAT OR ITS AFFILIATE COMPANIES OR ANY AUTHORIZED REPRESENTATIVE OF ANY OF THEM SHALL CREATE A WARRANTY. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OF OR LIMITATIONS ON IMPLIED WARRANTIES OR THE LIMITATIONS ON THE APPLICABLE STATUTORY RIGHTS OF A CONSUMER, SO SOME OR ALL OF THE ABOVE EXCLUSIONS AND LIMITATIONS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
  4. Limitation of Liability. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMISSIBLE BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL VIASAT BE LIABLE TO YOU FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES (INCLUDING LOSS OF USE, DATA, OR PROFITS OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION) (OR ANY SIMILAR CONCEPT OF LAWS OTHER THAN CALIFORNIA LAW, TO THE EXTENT THAT ANY SUCH OTHER LAWS MAY BE APPLICABLE) ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THIS LICENSE OR THE USE OR PERFORMANCE OF THE APPLICATION, WHETHER SUCH LIABILITY ARISES FROM CONTRACT, WARRANTY, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), STRICT LIABILITY OR OTHERWISE, AND WHETHER OR NOT VIASAT HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH LOSS OR DAMAGE. THE PARTIES HAVE AGREED THAT THESE LIMITATIONS WILL SURVIVE AND APPLY EVEN IF ANY REMEDY IS FOUND TO HAVE FAILED OF ITS ESSENTIAL PURPOSE. WITHOUT LIMITING THE FOREGOING, VIASAT SHALL HAVE NO LIABILITY OR RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY BUSINESS INTERRUPTION OR LOSS OF DATA ARISING FROM THE AUTOMATIC TERMINATION OF THE LICENSE RIGHTS GRANTED HEREIN AND ANY ASSOCIATED CESSATION OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE APPLICATION. BECAUSE SOME STATES OR JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW LIMITATION OR EXCLUSION OF CONSEQUENTIAL OR INCIDENTAL DAMAGES, THE ABOVE LIMITATION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU. VIASAT IS ACTING ON BEHALF OF ITS SUBSIDIARIES, AFFILIATES, LICENSORS AND SUPPLIERS FOR THE PURPOSE OF DISCLAIMING, EXCLUDING AND LIMITING OBLIGATIONS, WARRANTIES AND LIABILITY, BUT IN NO OTHER RESPECTS AND FOR NO OTHER PURPOSES. IN NO EVENT SHALL VIASAT’S TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL DAMAGES (EXCEPT AS REQUIRED BY APPLICABLE LAW) EXCEED $50.00 (FIFTY UNITED STATES DOLLARS). NOTWITHSTANDING THE FOREGOING, VIASAT DOES NOT EXCLUDE OR LIMIT ITS LIABILITY IN ANY MANNER OR TO ANY EXTENT WHICH WOULD BE UNLAWFUL IN AN APPLICABLE JURISDICTION, AND SPECIFICALLY DOES NOT EXCLUDE OR LIMIT ITS LIABILITY FOR DEATH OR PERSONAL INJURY CAUSED BY VIASAT’S OWN NEGLIGENCE OR FOR FRAUD OR FRAUDULENT MISREPRESENTATION.
  5. Limitation of Liability and Disclaimer of Warranties are Material Terms of this License. You agree that the provisions of this License that limit liability are essential terms of this License.
  6. Severability and Survival. If any provision of this License is illegal or unenforceable under applicable law, the remainder of such provision shall be amended to achieve as closely as possible the effect of the original term and all other provisions of this License shall continue in full force and effect.
  7. Export. You will comply fully with all relevant export laws and regulations of the United States and any other country (“Export Laws”) where you use the Application. You certify that you are not on any of the U.S. Government lists of prohibited persons, including but not limited to the Treasury Department’s List of Specially Designated Nationals, and the Commerce Department’s List of Denied Persons or Entity List. You further certify that you shall not export, re-export, ship, transfer or otherwise use the Application in any country subject to an embargo or other sanction by the United States, and that you shall not use the Application for any purpose prohibited by the Export Laws, including, but not limited to, nuclear, chemical, missile or biological weapons related end uses.
  8. Injunctive Relief. You agree that a breach of this License will cause irreparable injury to Viasat for which monetary damages would not be an adequate remedy and Viasat shall be entitled to seek equitable relief in addition to any remedies it may have hereunder or at law without a bond, other security or proof of damages, including any injunctions and other similar measures provided by any applicable foreign laws.
  9. Applicable Law. This License is made in the State of California. This License and all of the parties’ respective rights and duties, including, without limitation, any claims for breach of this License, shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, in the United States, excluding conflicts of law provisions. The parties may bring an action to enforce this License and its remedies in any court of competent jurisdiction. The parties irrevocably submit themselves to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the State of California, USA.
  10. Entire Agreement. This License constitutes the entire and only agreement with respect to its subject matter between you and Viasat, applicable also to all users of this Application. This License supersedes all representations, proposals, inducements, assurances, promises, agreements and other communications with respect to its subject matter except as expressly set forth in this License. Nothing in this License excludes or limits any liability for fraud.
  11. No Third Party Rights. This License does not give any rights to any third party to enforce any of its terms.
  12. Changes to the Terms of this License. Viasat may need to change the terms of this License to reflect changes in law or best practice or to deal with additional features which we introduce. We will give you notice of any material change by posting a new version of this License when you next start the Application following a material change. If you do not accept the notified changes or updated License you will not be permitted to continue to use the Application.

ViaSat-2/Viasat WiFi Gateway Point and Peak Job Aid

    Summary

    This Job Aid covers:

This Job Aid supports all technician audiences. This process supports the VS1300 antenna and mounts. If using the SB2 or SB2+ modem, see ViaSat-1/SurfBeam 2 Point and Peak Job Aid.

    VTT Point & Peak

    Top of Page

    VTT Point & Peak

Utilize the Viasat TechTools App to begin the Point and Peak process through the work order by clicking “Pointing & Peaking”:

You’ll see the Install Key autopopulates in the VTT App because you’ve accessed Pointing and Peaking through the work order.

Click continue in the VTT App to begin.

Confirm that the following are happening:

    1. The gateway’s light is blinking a purple color
    2. ODU Link Check indicator is green.  If not, wait up to 4 minutes This confirms that the TRIA is connected to the gateway
    3. The pTRIA is emitting the ‘heartbeat‘ tone
Click play to hear the “Heartbeat” tone.

The gateway and pTRIA are ready for the Point and Peak process.

    Top of Page

Sweep 1: Coarse Point Azimuth with Wait Sequence

Follow these steps to point the Azimuth.

From behind the antenna sweep the antenna to the right, about 10 degrees away from the line- of-sight selected during the Site Survey.

Sweep 1: Reverse the direction of the adjustment, listening for the pTRIA to emit the ‘ring ring’ tone.

Click play to hear the “Ring-Ring” tone.

Continue slowly sweeping the antenna toward the left, through several tones, until the pTRIA emits the ‘beep-beep’ tone. This indicates that you have exited the beam.

Click play to hear the “Beep-Beep” tone.

You have 15 seconds to start your next sweep and re-enter the beam or the gateway will reset. If the gateway resets, begin the process from the beginning.

Sweep 2: Reverse the direction of the adjustment, listening for the pTRIA to progress through the tone sequence. Stop the sweep when the pTRIA emits the ‘beep-beep’ tone. This is the end of the second learning pass.

Click play to hear the “Beep-Beep” tone.

Note: Use a slow, consistent tension on the antenna during this sweep. Not all of the tones may be heard.

Begin the third sweep within 15 seconds.

Sweep 3: Slowly sweep the antenna toward the center. Stop when the pTRIA emits the ‘high steady’ tone.

Click play to hear the “High Steady” tone.

Wait and listen for the pTRIA to emit the ‘wait’ tone. The antenna needs to be stationary while the ‘wait’ tone emits, in order to calibrate itself.

Click play to hear the “Wait” tone.

When the ‘high steady’ tone returns, finish this step by tightening the flange bolts, starting with the center flange bolt to maintain an even pressure on the tube canister.

Click play to hear the “High Steady” tone.

    Top of Page

    Peak Elevation with Wait Sequence

Follow these steps to complete the antenna elevation (fine) peaking process.

Slightly loosen the lockdown nuts in the arched slots on the sides of the elevation bracket. Next, turn the top 13mm nut on the elevation rod away from the top of the pivot casting.

Using the open wrench, adjust the lower nut on the elevation rod until the pTRIA lowers, and listen for the pTRIA to emit the ‘low/slow’ tone.

Click play to hear the “Low/Slow” tone.

This is the far edge of its frequency set. Stop, as this is the end of the first fine-tune learning pass.

Important: Do not pass the ‘low/slow’ tone when peaking the antenna.

Reverse the direction of the adjustment, and listen for the pTRIA to progress through the tone sequence. Be certain you hear the ‘high steady’ tone during this sweep and continue until you hear the ‘low-slow’ tone.

Stop the sweep when the pTRIA emits the ‘low/slow’ tone. This is the end of the second fine-tune learning pass.

Reverse the direction of the adjustment, and listen for the pTRIA to emit the ‘high steady’ tone. Wait and listen for the pTRIA to emit the ‘wait’ tone. The antenna needs to be stationary while the ‘wait’ tone emits.

Click play to hear the “High Steady” tone.

When high steady returns, add 1/8 turn to move the pTRIA slightly towards the center of the beam. Start by tightening the same nuts. Start with the elevation lock down bolts and then the top nut of the elevation rod.

    Peak Azimuth

Follow these steps to complete the antenna Azimuth (fine) peaking process.

Loosen the Azimuth base plate bolts using a 13mm ratchet.

Using an open wrench, slowly turn the Azimuth fine-adjust bolt, listening for the pTRIA to emit the ‘low/slow’ tone. This means that the antenna has found the far edge of its frequency set.

Click play to hear the “Low/Slow” tone.

Stop, as this is the end of the first fine-tune learning pass.

Important: Do not pass the ‘low/slowtone when peaking the antenna.

Reverse the direction of the adjustment, and listen for the pTRIA to progress through the tone sequence.

Be certain you hear the ‘high steady’ tone during this adjustment and continue until you hear the ‘low-slow’ tone.

Stop the adjustment when the pTRIA emits the ‘low/slow’ tone. This is the end of the second fine- tune learning pass.

Reverse the direction of the adjustment again, now moving to the center, and listen for the pTRIA to emit the ‘final high steady’ tone. The antenna is now in the center of the beam.

Click play to hear the “Final High Steady” tone.

Note: The ‘final high steady’ tone is a higher pitched tone

Finish this step by tightening the Azimuth base plate bolts. A green check mark should be populated next to:

    • “AZ Sweep Check”
    • “Fine Pointing” This indicates you have completed this step in the process.

Note: The ‘final high steady’ tone may dip while tightening the base plate bolts. If the tone does not return to the ‘final high steady’ tone, then restart the pointing and peaking process from the beginning.

    Push/Pull Test

Important: Before finishing the alignment, always perform a Push/Pull test

From behind the antenna, gently push and pull each side of the antenna

Gently push and pull the top of the antenna

The test passes when: every time pressure is added to the antenna, the pTRIA’s ‘final high steady’ tone dips and when the pressure is removed, the antenna returns to its ‘final high steady’ state.

Click play to hear the “Final High Steady” tone.

If the tone rises, the alignment is not correct. You must repeat the pointing and peaking process from the beginning.

RX SNR in the VTT App

During the Point and Peak process, the VTT App records the current and the peak RX SNR levels in the Signal Strength section. These two levels will nearly match when an antenna is aligned correctly.

Levels showing differences of +/- 0.3dB are acceptable. Differences greater than 0.3dB will fail Point and Peak in the VTT App. If levels are greater than +/- 0.3dB, the VTT App will repeat the Point and Peak process.

Remember to reset the modem’s learning by sweeping the antenna away from the satellite, holding the Inclinometer bracket over the feed horn, and then re-centering the Azimuth fine-adjust bolt.

When Pointing & Peaking is complete, the customer will need to provide their signature, and then you can follow along as the VTT App updates the MAC address, performs QOI, and performs Service Activation.
